Give your favorite room a makeover under $150!

Here are some things that really work (each are below $150!):

  • Paint one wall a bright bold color! Accent walls help change the focal point of the room.
  • Changing throw pillows/cushions can really help add color and personality to your room! If you have the money to throw a rug into the mix, go ahead!
  • Get a new floor lamp! it's amazing how a little change in lighting can help alter the feel of a room!

Lost a button?

Courtney

Idea_tail_up posted on October 07, 2009 at 05:41PM to Do-It-Yourself with Style

I lose buttons all the time on coats, shirts, and whatever else. Instead of bringing it to a tailor to fix I always do it myself! It's really simple. You can buy any other funky buttons you want and sew them in place of the old ones. Once I lose one, I end up pulling off every other button and putting some fun buttons in their place to create a new look... almost like a brand new piece of clothing!

Kitchen tip

I have found that you can get a really high quality Kichen by just going to Ikea and upgrading the door fronts instead of spending $$$ on a European kitchen. The cabinet boxes are identical and so is the hardware. The difference in cost can save you 60%-75%

Broadway discounts!

When I lived in New York, I saved SO much money on Broadway shows by using a student ID. I got third row center seats for between $20-$30. If you're not a student anymore (like me), you can also save on shows by buying tickets the morning of the show. You're not guaranteed a seat, but I was able to get a seat more often than not. Especially on less busy nights.

I have a few tips to keep me from raiding the fridge at 11pm at night. First, I keep my hands busy. I love to knit and do crafts, so I'll reach for a knitting needle or glue gun when I feel myself getting weak. Second, I brush my teeth right after dinner. Third, I turn off all the lights in the kitchen and "retire" the area for the night. It really works!

Clean your microwave - naturally!

Idea_tail_up posted on November 13, 2009 at 11:40AM to Green Living

When life gives you lemons, use them to clean your microwave! Squeeze the juice of one lemon into a cup of water and place it in the microwave. Hit full power for 5-10 minutes then carefully remove the cup. Wipe the microwave down with a damp sponge and take a deep breath, you will be amazed at how clean and fresh your appliance will be.

Never forget a coupon

Whenever I clip a coupon for a product I frequently use, I tape it to the existing item in my house (e.g. tape a dishwashing liquid coupon to my dishwashing liquid under the sink) so I have it at the ready and top-of-mind when the old item is almost finished!

Use mirrors to make a small room look bigger!

A great trick to making a small room look a LOT bigger is using mirrors. Place them across from a window to really bring in the light and open up the room. It works great in my tiny apartment!

Use ShopLocal.com to find the best price locally

Go to Shoplocal.com, enter your zip code and the item you're looking for and the site will scan all the sale ads for your local stores and tell you what stores near you have the best price on the item.  I did this to find K Cups for my Keurig coffeemaker and have been hooked on the site ever since.

Fun way to freshen up your house

kapley
Larned, KS

Idea_tail_up posted on January 30, 2010 at 09:52AM to Everything Else

Go to your heater vent and unscrew the top of it, clean it from dust and anything else that may be on it. Then take a dryer sheet and place it on the bottom side of it with a little of it hanging out so when you put the vent back on it stays in place. Leave it in there for about one month, and then replace it! It freshens the room and catches any dust that may be coming up through the vent!

Simple Coupon Idea

ccbmom

Idea_tail_up posted on January 19, 2010 at 06:18PM to Everything Else

Tip #1  Each week I write my shopping list on the back of a business envelope - (tip #2 with online bill payment I always have a leftover envelope and won't waste a blank one).  I put a star next to the items that I have a coupon for and then I take the matching coupons out of my coupon keeper and place it in the envelope.  I'm MUCH more likely to remember to use the coupons this way!

If you shop at Kmart, don't forget to sign up for a Kmart rewards card.  It's free to sign up, and I've already earned a free toothbrush and free 16 ounce lotion just for swiping my card when I pay at the register.  Free is always good!
